Abstract

This paper introduces an improvement of a reduced observer structure for anisotropy-based rotor position estimation of a permanent-magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) [1]. Using field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and current oversampling, the observer computes the rotor position during a half PWM period. Due to the usage of an iterative tracker [2], the convergence of the adaption law can be evaluated at each call. Analyses of the observer error lead to an improvement of the position estimation error. This is done by a reduction of the discretisation error and by considering the influence of the stator resistance. An adaptive reference frame for the closed loop self-sensing control depending on the load current is implemented and proved by experimental results.
