Abstract

Steel cord conveyor belts are used on belt conveyors to transport bulk materials. For reasons of handling and transport, only segments of limited length are produced which need to be spliced at the place of use. This is done by means of hot vulcanization using mobile vulcanizing presses. This paper examines a new heating method for use in vulcanizing presses in which the tension members of a steel cord conveyor belt are inductively heated to use them as an additional source of heat. The effects of this method on the strength of a belt splice are analyzed and the examination results are generalized for various belt types used in practice.
