Abstract
For control and optimization of biotechnical processes special knowledge is necessary in the areas of both bioprocess engineering and automatic control. This quite often results in a non-optimal processing. The expert system presented in the following article is equipped with knowledge bases for the formulation of mathematical models as well as the generation and optimization of feedback controllers for biotechnical processes. Modules for off-line use (model formulation, control design, simulation) and for on-line application (control, optimization, process supervision) were elaborated. The complete expert system was successfully tested in case of the production of antibiotics with Cephalosporium acremonium.
