Abstract

This paper describes design guidelines for the axial end region with the aim of reducing axial magnetic stator flux in synchronous machines considering the three-dimensional freedom offered by additive manufacturing technologies. The state of the art allows the use of soft magnetic ferrosilicon alloys in additively manufacturing of rotors. The fringing air-gap flux density generates a flux in the axial end region which enters the stator axially. The effects of new designs for the axial end region are evaluated, and the results are used to develop specific design guidelines.
