Abstract
In this paper a comparison study between synthetically generated turbulent wind fields and Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) is presented. The method used for the generation of the synthetic turbulent wind fields is based on the methods of Kraichnan1 and Lund et al.2 and was modified for the needs in this project. It is able to produce turbulent wind fields with a given energy spectrum, correlation matrix and velocity variances. The statistical properties of the generated wind fields are compared to wind fields produced by the Parallelized LES Model (PALM). PALM is a finite difference model for the simulation of the atmospheric boundary layer. Since there are no three-dimensional measurements for the atmospheric boundary layer the wind fields produced by PALM are used as a reference for the synthetically generated turbulent wind fields.
