Abstract
The processability of rubber compounds and the mechanical cured rubber properties are influenced by the addition of plasticiszers, such as mineral oils. Especially in binary rubber blends, the plasticizer effect is determined by the equilibrium distribution of the plasticizer or of individual plasticizer components between the elastomer phases, A practical method has been developed for monitoring this equilibrium distribution. It is based on a diffusion test in a sandwich arrangement, followed by determination of plasticizer or individual plasticizer component concentrations in the separate polymer phases via extraction an high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC).
