Abstract
We describe recent experiments toward an ion-photon interface in which a calcium ion in a linear Paul trap is coupled to the mode of a high-finesse cavity. Additionally, we present a new system using fiber-based mirrors that will allow us to access the strong-coupling regime of cavity QED.
