Abstract
Thermal distortion of machine tools is one major source of part errors. Within this paper a new concept for the compensation of thermal errors without the need for extensive measurements or modifications in the numerical control unit is presented. This research work is done in cooperation with the companies Siemens and MAG Powertrain within the European project "Next Generation Production Systems" (NEXT).
