Abstract
Potential benefits of bridge construction with ultra high-performance reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) precast elements for the precast industry are discussed. Stringent requirements for bridge structures due to rising traffic volumes, accompanied by the aging structure of bridges in Germany, are calling for fast construction of new and replacement structures. This can only be achieved with precast construction. Prefabrication can reduce construction time and minimize traffic interruptions. Combining this construction method with UHPFRC, owing to its very high compressive strength and durability, thin-walled, performance-oriented and durable UHPFRC precast solutions can be achieved.
