Abstract

Handling Fluctuations in Demand Using Load Flexibility. Market volatility is a key challenge for manufacturing companies.In addition to short-term fluctuations in demand quantities, variant mix fluctuations of customized prod-ucts reinforce the need for efficient use of load balancing measures. As a solution approach, both a methodology for operationalizing load flexibility and a software demonstrator for decision support for SMEs are being developed at the Institute of Factory Systems and Logistics (IFA) in the research project „GeProVar“. The capacity and load control measures available to manufacturing companies are listed in this paper. The intended decision support enables a responsive execution of the selection of optimal combinations of load control measures to han-dle short-term fluctuations in demand.
