Abstract

Key competitive attributes of manufacturing companies are a high delivery reliability and the flexible use of internal resources to meet the market needs. For enabling a fast, customer-related product development process, a variety of tools of the digital factory is applied. Their use effects to a significant increase in information complexity. During the manufacturing phase, the information required to produce the part is stored separately and a physical separation of information and the product can be observed. Separating information and part can cause interruptions and delays as the information may not be available at hand. In a novel approach of the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 653 " Gentelligent components in their life cycle", technologies are developed to inherently combine part- and processspecific information directly with the part to be manufactured. The relevant data is stored directly on the component which functionality increases within the manufacturing environment. In the future, based on the depicted approach unproductive time will be further reduced and the total productivity can be increased.
