Abstract

Electrospinning is a production process for fibrous scaffolds for tissue engineering. Various electrospinning devices already exist. However, none of the devices can be easily integrated into a line production for heart valve scaffolds. In this work, concepts have been developed for setting up a line production consisting of several electrospinning and laser manufacturing cells. The heart valve cusps are electrospun and then laser cut. The cusps are together with a hollow cylinder laser welded to form a heart valve scaffold. The scaffold is finally packed. Additionally, a control for spinneret positioning and the shutter of the electrospinning device was engineered and coded. This brings the electrospinning device one step closer to full automation. The interface was tested during electrospinning production of various scaffolds.
