Abstract

Noncrosslinked SBR compounds with varying vinyl content and mineral oils of the types TDAE, DAE and MES were investigated using 1H NMR relaxation spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical measurements (RPA). Applying NMR relaxation spectroscopy, an increase in the dynamical behavior of the polymer chains was clearly found to be concurrent with an increase in plasticizer content in the exponential part of the transversal relaxation curve (T2). Evaluation of both the measurements of the longitudinal relaxation time T1 and the Tg determinations show the behavior to be additive as per the pure components. Plasticizer efficiency is found to conform to a gradation DAE < TDAE < MES. Both the increasing dynamics and the plasticizer efficiency of NMR are confirmed by tan determinations (RPA).
