Abstract
This paper presents applications of a new range of three-level medium voltage IGBT inverters. Although primarily designed for standard applications like fans and pumps, the system is versatile enough to be used also in technically more demanding applications. The first example is a conveyor belt drive with regenerative active front end converter, where two converters and motors drive the same axis. Due to the use of optimized pulse patterns, a very good line side behavior of the system is achieved. The dynamic requirements that are more stringent than in simple applications are easily met by the motor control. The second example is a high speed drive with a rated speed of 6400 rpm and an output frequency of 118 Hz max. Since no output filter is incorporated, such applications with frequencies above 70 Hz can be realized using the standard converter.
