Abstract
After a short description of the liquid membrane technique, its biomedical, biotechnological, hydrometallurgical and environmental applications, which have been developed in the Institute for Technical Chemistry at the University of Hannover, are discussed. Included are the following techniques: In the field of biomedicine, the detoxification of blood, in biotechnology, the enantiomerselective separation of amino acids as well as the biosynthesis and biotransformation of chemicals in enzyme liquid membrane reactors, in hydrometal lurgy, the selective metal recovery, and in the environmental field, the metal recovery from mining waste waters and germanium recovery from flying ash.
