Description

The projects aims to develop physician-controlled activatable reaction systems, which release active substances to combat infections in a targeted manner in the event of clinical signs of infection. For this purpose, switchable miniaturised electromagnetic pumps will be integrated into the implant body, which guide the active ingredient via a channel system through a biocompatible porous coating, to be released on the implant surface. In order to ensure high cyclic mechanical strength of these implant systems, new ultra-fine grain (UFG) materials based on niobium-zirconium are to be developed. Material and biological testing will be performed in specific biomechanical test rigs and biofilm models.
