Description

The focus of the 7th symposium and PhD peer review was the design process as an originary method of architecture, urban design and landscape architecture and as a scientific way of gathering of new information. Manners of fundamental reasearch and competence build-up, paths of research and the benefits of architectural design were discussed regarding the main topic of 'Common Ground'.

The event was opened by vice dean professor Hilde Léon and thematically introduced by professor Margitta Buchert. 11 internationally oriented designers and theoreticians presented their research approaches and by this offered an expanded and deeper view of the topic. The PhD students also presented their works in this context. In following discussions different values of the term 'Common Ground' were described and categorised.

The symposium showed that the search for a 'Common Ground' in architecture and landscape is an ongoing one. It is necessary in the context of researching design and design research. The participants emphasized the potential of the DARA events through networking and exchange, and the possibility of showing relevance of one's own research work in the context of others.
