Description

Research-related design and design-related research in architecture, urban design and landscape architecture are generated, supported and structured by intentions as conscious purpose and position as well as intended content of perception, thought and action. The 10th International Symposium and PhD Peer Review 'DARA. Design and Research in Architecture and Landscape' was dedicated to the multifaceted characteristics, modes of action and meanings of intentions:

How do they have an orienting, clarifying and dynamic effect within the processes of design and research, and how do they contribute to the processes of design and knowledge? What tensions arise between imprint, orientation and the projective, between research, imagination and realization, and how can these be evaluated, communicated and conveyed in a transferable way? What relevance does the reflexive handling of intentions have in the context of high-quality design of the human living environment?

An introducing reflection on the topic was given by the four international peers – Ricardo Carvalho (LUA Lisbon), Caroline Voet (KU St. Lucas Gent), Prof. Katja Benfer/Cyrus Zahiri (LUH Hannover/bbzl Berlin), Prof. Matthias von Ballestrem (HCU Hamburg) – as well as by Prof. Dr. Margitta Buchert (LUH). Presentations of individual research projects by invited guests from academia and studio practice as well as by young researchers followed, outlining further fundamental levels of intentions and their interdependencies, areas of possibility and research potential. Within the framework of informal dialogues and thematically oriented discussions, overarching aspects and questions of the symposium were bundled and further developed. Different levels of intentions could thus be differentiated in their multifaceted and generative meanings for Reflexive Design in architecture and landscape.
