Abstract
Interactions between the functional areas involved in product development require coordination of a wide range of matters. Against this background, new approaches are increasingly oriented to an integrated product life cycle in order to obtain a product-oriented starting point for the analysis of interdependencies across the phases. At the same time, all phases must be taken into account - from basic observation of developments in the market through to the ultimate disposal of the products - and supported by cycle-based generation, processing and sharing of information. Suitable software systems should allow the information to be available irrespective of spatial, organisational and time constraints.
