Abstract
This paper is concerned with the automatic extraction of topographic objects like roads or buildings from maps and aerial images of medium and large scale. For this purpose, the technique of knowledge based image analysis is used. This means the automatic transformation of a matrix into a symbolic description of the image content according to the application by means of explicitly represented knowledge specific to the problem. As an example for knowledge based image analysis the automatic interpretation of objects like roads, pavement sand parcels from a cadastral map is presented in this paper. The outlook is concerned with the relation of models of image analysis and models of GIS as well as with the state of the art of image analysis of aerial images. -from English summary
