Abstract
Wigner crystallisation of two-dimensional electrons in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures is investigated by time-resolved photoluminescence. For the electrons in the pinned Wigner solid, the recombination time is found to increase exponentially with the magnetic field, whereas it remains constant for the liquid phase. A phase diagram for the Wigner solid is derived from the different time scales of the liquid and solid phases.
