Abstract
The roadway-vehicle interaction holds a key roll in passenger comfort and driving safety. Comfort and safety requirements are often contradictory to each other. A possible solution to the target conflict Is given by controllable chassis components and automatic intervention in driving dynamics. These active systems, which have been pertained to standard equipment for years, are a sub-area of mechatronics. The paper at hand presents automotive developments and systems from the mechatronic's point of view. It is shown, that especially the system integration and optimization can exploit performance resources that are normally unused. Furthermore nonfunctional aspects in use of mechatronic components are beeing highlighted.
