Abstract

A procedure is derived to calculate an estimate of the incident field in a scattering scenario, based on the knowledge of the characteristic modes (CM) on the scatterer and their excitation coefficients. A visualization method of the estimated incident field is proposed, which does not only depend on the original incident field, but also on the structure of the scatterer. Therefore, it can provide intuitive insight into the behavior of the scatterer. It is shown by example that this procedure is suited to calculate the direction of arrival (DoA) of the original plane wave incident on the scatterer.
