Abstract
In the present study it is experimentally demonstrated that aging at 673 K for 0.5 h under a tensile stress along the [1¯23] direction creates the necessary conditions for observing the two-way shape memory effect (TWSME) with reversible tensile strains up to ε = +1.8% in Co35Ni35Al30 single crystals. The TWSME is attributed to the internal stress fields created by the oriented arrangement of the dispersed particles resulting from the stress-assisted aging. In contrast, the TWSME was not observed in stress-free aged [1¯23]-oriented crystals.
