Abstract
A self-assembly strategy in combination with appropriate calcination procedures to provide thin ITO films distinguished by uniform mesoporosity was investigated. Wide angle X-ray scattering measurements (WAXS) showed that the mesoporous films were practically amorphous after the condensation step. Crystallization occurred at temperatures above 400°C, with the template being completely removed at the same time. This was further confirmed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDXS) measurements. To minimize the ohmic losses the porous ITO films were prepared on compact ITO/glass substrates and electrochemically active ferrocene moieties were covalently grafted onto the surface. Electrodeposition represents a suitable method for the preparation of very thin homogenous films in a conducting porous network and the film thickness can easily be controlled by monitoring the deposition time and the passed charge.
