Abstract
The fire resistance behavior of complete structural frame configurations under the simultaneous action of vertical and horizontal loads was investigated. There was satisfactory agreement between the experimentally obtained and calculated results. Besides fundamental insights into the load-bearing and deformation behavior, the investigations yielded a generalized representation as the basic concept for a simple and consistant fire protection engineering assessment of complete steel structures, or individual components thereof, subjected to predominantly flexural loading or endangered with regard to their stability. The failure temperatures of uniformly heated systems can be determined with reference to the load factor and the system slenderness as characteristic criteria deriving from structural design for 'cold' conditions.
