Abstract
The compressive strength of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) is comparable to structural steel and therefore competitive for thin-walled construction elements under compressive loading. To take advantage of this high strength, compressive struts with hollow cross-sections should be preferred because of the large ratio between the ultimate load and the dead weight. In this paper, the structural behaviour of "UHPC tube-struts" wrapped by minimal steel covers useable for precast elements in large-scale frameworks will be presented. Based on the experience with tubular columns (hollow profiles), the ductility-increasing effect of this steel covering and the general load hearing behaviour will be presented. Effects of the percentage of steel, the use of steel fibres and the type of load application were taken into account.
