Abstract
Forming asymmetric parts leads to large horizontal process forces applied to the ram. These forces entail horizontal ram displacement and influence the quality of the finished parts negatively. By application of counterforces, the displacement could be avoided. This paper presents a design of an electromagnetic system, which is capable of applying such counterforces. To obtain short reaction times, the techniques premagnetisation and overexcitation have been tested numerically.
