Abstract

Static deflections of cylindrical blanks in tool grinding processes lead to core diameter deviations that vary with the axial workpiece position. This paper presents an approach to compensate these errors automatically in process planning. Hybrid modelling is used to predict the current local load, the stiffness based on the moment of inertia and the resulting elastic deflection at each time step. Subsequently, the process is optimized by adapting the process parameters and the tool path in the NC-code. In an experimental study, the core diameter deviation after flute grinding has been reduced in a range from 68% up to 87% using the developed approach.
