Abstract

The properties of building materials during application and after hardening highly depend on their flow behaviour in the fresh state. Due to the wide spread use of rheology modifying additives, the common empirical test methods are no longer sufficient to describe the rheological properties of fresh building materials. Using rheological testing devices such as the HAAKE RheoStress 600 allows for a comprehensive description of the flow behaviour of such materials. This article will give a short overview of the various problems regarding the description of the rheological behaviour of freshly prepared building materials. Furthermore, the test methods for the determination of these properties and results, which were acquired during a project on the development of pumpable self-compacting lightweight concrete (SCLC), will be presented.
