Abstract
Drawing on Weber's differentiation between value judgement and scientific judgement, the authors analyze the programmatics of the Brandenburg initiative for the introduction of the school subject "Ways of Living - Ethics - Religion" (LER). In this, they take seriously the claim that this subject represents a secularized alternative to the required elective alternative Religion/Ethics. A detailed analysis of the structure of meaning of the programmatic leitmotif reveals that LER does not dispense with either the claim to pragmatic immediacy or the validity of scientific argumentation. In so far, LER does not convince as a countermodel to religion as a school subject. It contributes nothing to the solution of the structural problems of the modern science-oriented school.
