Abstract
This article has been retracted: please see Elsevier Policy on Article Withdrawal (https://www.elsevier.com/about/policies/article-withdrawal). This article has been retracted at the request of the Editor-in-Chief. Concerns were raised about the data calculations in the following papers published earlier in CYTOKINE by Dr. Behzad H. Maleki and colleagues: Behzad Hajizadeh Maleki, Bakhtyar Tartibian, Frank C. Mooren, Leah Z. FitzGerald, Karsten Krüger, Mohammad Chehrazi, Abbas Malandish, Low-to-moderate intensity aerobic exercise training modulates irritable bowel syndrome through antioxidative and inflammatory mechanisms in women: Results of a randomized controlled trial, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cyto.2017.12.016. Behzad Hajizadeh Maleki, Bakhtyar Tartibian, Moderate aerobic exercise training for improving reproductive function in infertile patients: A randomized controlled trial, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cyto.2017.01.007. Behzad Hajizadeh Maleki, Bakhtyar Tartibian, Frank C. Mooren, Karsten Krüger, Leah Z. FitzGerald, Mohammad Chehrazi, A randomized controlled trial examining the effects of 16 weeks of moderate-to-intensive cycling and honey supplementation on lymphocyte oxidative DNA damage and cytokine changes in male road cyclists, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cyto.2016.09.016. Several data points reported in these papers appeared nearly identical, and the p-values appeared as likely incorrect. The journal launched an investigation to verify the concerns. An expert statistician, who is familiar with human clinical trials, reanalyzed the reported data and raised serious concerns about the sample sizes, calculation of p-values, lack of confidence intervals, appropriateness of the methods used for statistical analyses, and randomization. The journal contacted the corresponding author, Dr. Maleki, about these issues. He acknowledged the concerns raised and agreed with the retraction of these papers.
