Abstract

Major work has been in progress since 1991 on regionalisation in Lower Saxony. The land planning at middle levels is still unsatisfactory in the State: only the Hanover area has benefited from integrative planning. There is also widespread confusion in the classification of urban versus rural areas, reflected in economic and cultural problems. Regional research must focus increasingly on the global economic, political and social-cultural trends. -R.Hardbottle
