Abstract

Two all-solid-state laser systems based on the highly-efficient frequency doubling of injection-locked diode laser systems were developed to be used as the pumping and probing laser to investigate negative dispersion without absorption. Because negative dispersion without absorption can only be demonstrated in a Doppler-free regime (atomic beam, 1:50 collimation) and the desired dispersion is very small (approximately 1.4×10-9 MHz), the phase-shift resolution has to be ≥10-6. A vacuum-operated highly-sensitive interferometer is developed to overcome problems connected to frequency modulation spectroscopy. First tests of the interferometer performed outside the vacuum revealed a sensitivity of 10-6 rads √Hz>1 kHz.
