Abstract

Adding more sugar: Overexpression of the landomycin glycosyltransferase gene lanGT4 in Streptomyces fradiae Tü2717 resulted in the conversion of the urdamycin trisaccharide into an unnatural tetrasaccharide by transfer of an L-rhodinose unit. We propose that LanGT4 is able to act iteratively on growing saccharide chains.
