Abstract
The common approaches for waste heat recovery in turbocharged fuel cells are using a fixed geometry nozzle or a variable nozzle geometry for radial turbines. The present study proposes an approach to combine the advantages of both concepts. For this purpose, the authors suggest a fixed geometry nozzle turbine with partial admission, in order to achieve the mass flow variability of a variable nozzle geometry turbine combined with the complexity, regarding the number of parts, of a fixed geometry nozzle turbine. The proposed turbine design can be applied as an additional single stage turbine-generator unit since the turbine stage consists of an axial impeller with a maximum axial thrust load of 16 N.
