Abstract
This paper depicts the potential of electric vehicles (EVs) to provide decentral local storage capacities to a temporary local emergency power back-up subnetwork within the distribution grid. The aim is to increase the overall resilience of the electricity supply in case of a longer-lasting large-scale blackout. One of the prerequisites for operating such subnetworks is to maintain local balances of active and reactive power. Therefore, a case study approach is introduced, that assesses the supply probability of local loads in multiple real MV subnetworks located in Northern Germany. In addition, the impact of a growing EV penetration rate (PR) is conducted. The results show that EV batteries increase the local supply probability for the EV owner itself as well as for the entire subnetwork by up to 10% in the case study region. However, the improvements are limited by the amount of locally available surplus generation, which is required to charge the EV batteries and thus be available in times without power generation.
