Abstract
The garnet-hornblende granofels occurs in places in the Niedźwiedź Amphibolite Massif (Fore-Sudetic Block, SW Poland). The granofels has basaltic tholeiitic composition and occurs within the amphibolites produced by retrogressive metamorphism. Leucocratic oligoclase-quartz schlieren with sparse epidote Ps17-20 and oligoclase-clinopyroxene aggregates occur locally in the granofels. The form of schlieren suggests that they originated by partial melting of their host. The melt was of tonalitic composition and was produced by reaction of hornblende and possibly garnet to form clinopyroxene and melt. The epidote occurring in the quartz-oligoclase schlieren is of magmatic origin. Semi-quantitative pressure and temperature estimates indicate melting conditions of 12-13 kbar pressure and 790°C.
