N2 - Sound field recordings and subsequent reproduction became more popular recently due to the availability of high quality microphone arrays and spatial audio reproduction technologies. Beside artistic applications and the creation of virtual acoustic environments, these developments also provide the ability to carry natural soundscapes from their original location to any appropriate reproduction laboratory. A possible application is the qualitative evaluation of noisy environments within perceptive studies where subjects are exposed to differing and different recorded or synthesized noisy soundscapes with the task of qualitative rating of relevant psychoacoustic categories as disturbance, annoyance, pleasantness and others. To retrieve valid findings it is mandatory that the reproduced sound in the lab is sufficiently accurate compared to the original soundscape or at least that the factors in question are not impaired by the production chain, i.e. preserving ecological validity.This work discusses technical requirements, issues and approaches of higher-order ambisonics recordings and reproduction of wind turbine noisescapes for perceptual studies. It includes practical investigations on the recording position, the microphone arrays in use, reduction of background and artifact sounds, binaural and ambisonics post-processing and the reproduction room itself. This work represents a contribution to the interdisciplinary research project WEA-Akzeptanz.
