Abstract

Most commonly used substructures for offshore wind energy converters are facing serious reservations by approval authorities due to the noise emission of pile driving. This paper addresses the characteristics of numerically based assessment of shells for suction bucket foundations which are currently adapted to the offshore wind energy sector. Focus is laid on modelling of geometrical imperfections. The influence of pre-deformation shapes derived from static failure and from the first buckling eigenmode are compared and complemented by investigations on the influence of the imperfection amplitude.
