Abstract

Measurements of the spin-lattice relaxation time T1 of β-active 8Li in liquid lithium were carried out at temperatures between 450 K and 1400 K and in magnetic fields between 0.005 and 0.7 T. No field dependence of T1 was found. The Knight shift K of 7Li in liquid lithium was measured at temperatures up to 1000 K. The Korringa enhancement n obtained from the present T1 and Knight shift results was found to be 0.67 ± 0.01 independent of temperature. Furthermore, the magnetic susceptibility x of lithium was measured at temperatures between 450 K and 1700 K. The contact density PF at the lithium nuclei, obtained by combiningxwith the present NMR results, increases slightly as a function of temperature.
