Abstract
The development of new model, processes and simulation tools is an area which has impact on the development in Civil Engineering. This can be related to the development of better materials as well as to the design of simulation tools for complex problems. Furthermore many data in Civil Engineering are of random nature and thus uncertain. The description of random data and stochastic processes needs new models and strategies. Mechanics as basic science can help to advance these developments, as well on the theoretical side as on the numerical implementation of different schemes.
