Abstract

To characterize microstructural and properties changes of the air-hardening steel LH800® due to heat treatment various experimental investigations were carried out. Amongst others, the TTA-austenite grain size diagram, the martensite transformation curve and the tempering diagram were determined. Based on the experimental data the coeicients of the Koistinen-Marburger model were calculated. his allows for a mathematical description of the martensite formation during hardening. he obtained data can be used not only to improve the experimental process design but also to provide information to improve existing numerical models.
