Abstract
Micro structuring of thermally and mechanically high stressed surfaces gives an innovative alternative to adjust tribological properties. At the Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools (IFW) functional surfaces are structured via cutting processes. By evaluation of structure geometry and material removal behaviour the interrelations of tool edge geometry, material and process parameters are analysed. To prevent further finishing operations, sharp structures with tolerable burr formation have to be achieved. The obtained results will provide a basis for optimised dimensioning and machining of microstructures.
