Abstract
This paper deals with the measurement of certain space harmonics of the air-gap flux of electrical machines by means of search coils. A general equation for the induced voltage in any given system of search coils is given. A novel method for the design of highly selective search coils is presented, including many examples. The dependence of the induced voltage on the position of the search coils is discussed, as well as the special quality of multi-phase search coils. Finally, hints for the practical implementation are given.
