Abstract
This paper presents a novel and alternative framework for measuring the probability of failures for sustaining mechanical structures. The concept of systemic risk measures from the financial mathematics literature is used for modeling the entire system, which finally generalizes the methodology of structural reliability-based optimization procedures. The proposed systemic risk measures provide collections of deterministic input parameters for the structure model leading to a stochastic output determined by a predefined acceptance set. Further, using conditional probabilities within this acceptance criterion paves the way for considering conditional events in structural reliability analysis.
