Abstract

Performance criteria for interior plaster in the scope of climate change and occupants' comfort. Current climate projections forecast that climate change will cause both a rise in summer temperatures and air humidity as well as an increase of extreme weather events. Warm-humid (sultry) conditions will not only affect human comfort outdoors, but especially indoors in residential spaces. The objective of this study was to derive technical criterions for the properties of so-called “climate-active” interior plaster systems which help to regulate the indoor climate by moisture absorption, storage and desorption. Recent analysis shows that customized material properties can improve moisture regulation and thereby the comfort. Relevant simulations and experiments are presented. A modification of the comfort limits for air humidity at high temperatures from standards is proposed and its exemplary use is shown.
