Abstract
Although studies on migration linguistics seek to describe and explain all communicative situations encountered by a migrant individual (Kluge 2007: 70), they do not usually consider the dynamics of linguistic mediation occurring in every bilingual community. Community interpreting, in turn, usually focuses on practices of linguistic mediation within migrant communities but does not tend to provide a thorough linguistic analysis of the individuals or communities that are the object of study. This contribution aims to encourage the combination of these two sub-disciplines by means of integrating certain theoretical elements of community interpreting into the studies on migration linguistics and vice versa. In order to do so, I would like to present the results of a study on the linguistic practices of the Galician migrant community in Hanover (Germany) since the 1960s. The proposed theoretical framework combines Gugenberger's (2007, 2018) migration linguistic model on the acculturative strategies followed by migrants and Hlavac's (2011) model on the profiles adopted by these individuals within the mediation practices in their communities. The corpus is composed of 22 narrative and biographical interviews based on oral history.
