Abstract
A new approach to simulate and optimise the process at an Intermodal Cargo Transshipment Terminal is presented. Inspired by the concept of a dispatcher, a processing logic combining the advantages of holistic optimisation and event based simulation was created. We describe why holistic optimisation is possible only from a macroscopic point of view and show that our processing logic gives the possibility to react on disturbance factors like train delays and to locally optimise the microscopic process.
