Abstract
Continuing earlier work a test rig for investigations into the tribological characteristics of radial lip seals has been further optimized implementing a sapphire hollow shaft and a new setup for LIF (Laser Induced Fluorescence) measurements. Quantitative lubricant film thickness measurements are performed applying an in-situ calibration approach. At the same time as the optical film thickness measurements are conducted, the seal friction torque is determined implementing a telemetric torque sensor. Results of speed step experiments carried out within the low-speed range of 0...100 rpm are presented for both new and run-in seals.
